You guys, there has been a war going on at my house. For the longest time, I thought I had a fruit fly infestation. I tried everything! My house reeked of apple cider vinegar from all the traps I had around. Nothing worked. Then, my Mom offered a suggestion that provided us some relief.
I should've known I could count on Dawn. It's works wonders on everything. At least, according to Pinterest.
But then I did some internet research and learned something else about my "fruit flies". They weren't even fruit flies! They were actually called fungus gnats. I unknowingly brought them in this summer when I got new house plants. They breed in the soil and the larva eat plant roots. That's why the ACV wasn't working!
There are lots of fancy (expensive) solutions to this problem online. Don't waste your money. Here's what you do...
Squirt a little Dawn into a bowl and add water to create bubbles. The gnats then fly into the soap and die. I think it coats there wings so they can't fly away. That's how you kill the grown-ups.
To really get rid of the problem, you have to take care of the larva too. I read online that adding hydrogen peroxide to the water you're watering your plants with will kill them. I tried that and it didn't seem to be working. I tried adding a drop of Dawn to my watering can instead and it's working! Hooray!
I think I'm going to go green with it next and just water my plants with dirty dish water!
Oh, btw, the Dawn solution works on fruit flies too and doesn't stink up your house like ACV! (Josh thinks it smells like stinky feet) Hope this helps!
