Do you guys have movies that you just have to watch around the holidays? You know, movies that aren't actually Christmas movies; but they still put you in the holiday spirit. That's what these movies are to me.
Edward Scissorhands
came out at Christmas time, but it doesn't take place just in the winter. Still, the ice sculptures get me in the holiday mood every time! (and the DVD is on sale at Amazon for $4.99, just click the link)
Ok, Love Actually
TOTALLY takes place at Christmas time. I know. But it's not about Christmas. It's about love. It breaks my heart and then melts it. I look forward to this movie so much....and I've already watched it once this season. Also, the turtlenecks are spectacular as you can clearly see here.
Little Women
is one of my all-time favorite books and the movie version with Winona Ryder as Jo is the best. It's about sisters and they have the most glorious winter in the movie. I just love it! I may have to break out the book again soon. Oh! It's also the movie I remember Christian Bale from. Screw Batman, he's always Laurie to me. And I just realized Winona made this list twice. Can you tell I grew up in the 90's? Ha!
If you haven't seen Serendipity, you're missing out! It's romantic. It's John Cusack. It's New York. AND it makes everyone want to visit Serendipity3 for frozen hot chocolate.
Ok, I know this last one doesn't look like it fits in this category. It totally does. It starts on Christmas Eve, but spans the entire year with song & dance numbers. It's also the film that originally introduced the song White Christmas. I like the movie White Christmas, but it doesn't come close to the way I feel about Holiday Inn. I mean, come ON! It's Fred Astaire!
Do you have any movies that you MUST watch during the holiday season that aren't Christmas movies? I'd love to hear what they are!
Love Actually has always been one of my favorite movies!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful?! I remember seeing it in the theater. :)
DeleteI love Edward Scissor Hands! & I have never seen Love Actually!
ReplyDeleteYou HAVE to see it! It's on even on Netflix!
DeleteLove Actually is my favorite movie! I also have to watch The Holiday and The Christmas Story. I have onlt seen Serendipity once and it is so good!
ReplyDeleteI need to watch The Holiday. I fell asleep when I tried to watch it before. I wasn't bored, just SUPER tired!
DeleteAll of those movies are on my Holiday List too! Especially Little Women and Love Actually. I haven't watched Edward yet, but I probably will today with the snow we're supposed to get. Holiday Inn is an absolute classic! Have you seen Christmas in Connecticut? If you haven't, you must! It's my all time favorite with Barbara Stanwyck! Happy Holidays ~ *erica*
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Christmas in Connecticut! I'll add it to my list. Thanks!
DeleteLove your list! I still need to see Love Actually. It looks like so much fun--I've just never taken the time to watch it. I need to get on that ;]
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, every Christmas, my siblings and I watched The Muppets' Christmas Carol. We still watch it with our dad at least once a Christmas season . . . and sing all the songs . . . It's just a fun, wacky piece of my childhood I love to revisit ;]
Some of my favorite Christmas music is from the John Denver & the Muppets album. I totally understand. My sister and I still go crazy for Mickey's Christmas Carol!
DeleteI've seen the first 3 but not the last two! Looks like I have some movie-watching to do!!
ReplyDeleteKate,
ReplyDeleteI had NO IDEA there was a movie about Serendipity3! I was JUST there with friends and enjoyed that VERY frozen hot chocolate! I must find this movie and watch it!
You're going to love it! It's wonderful! I'm so jealous! Em and I have been wanting to go there ever since we saw the movie!
DeleteLittle Women is a great Christmas movie, good call! Christian Bale will always be Laurie to me too. Although, I recently just watched Little Women again and I couldn't get over how young he was! Gah, he was just a boy! So cute.
