Mirror to Chalkboard Makeover!

Is it just me, or does Pinterest make everyone want to spray paint stuff? I have a habit of buying vintage mirrors that I don't really need and was stoked when I found out that you can easily turn mirrors into chalkboards!

This is the mirror that I started with. It was pretty, but not really my style. The frame is plastic, so I thought it would be perfect for a makeover. Also, the back easily unscrewed. I prefer to take frames apart instead of taping them off if I can. It saves me a lot of time and the trouble of doing touch-ups.

There are all sorts of different brands you could use for this project, but here is what I used...

Jungle Jim's Adventure!

It's getting to be that time of year where the weekends get busier and we all run around like crazy people. While I was able to get quite a bit of work done this weekend, I also snuck in some fun. I spent most of the day treasure hunting on Saturday (FYI, There's some new Pyrex coming to the shop very soon...and the cameras I just listed? AMAZING) and wrapped up the day with a trip to Jungle Jim's International Market in Fairfield, OH.

Jungle Jim's is the amusement park of grocery stores. For starters, it's massive. You need a map to find your way around the place!

They have a large selection of everything you can imagine. I think the cheese went on for 1/2 a mile. How could you not be happy in a place with that much cheese?? (and samples!) These guys were my favorite!

Just the Tip #2

I know, this one sounds weird. One of my favorite thrift stores was having problems with people changing their prices, so they started marking everything with permanent marker. Ugh! So frustrating! This is hands down the easiest way to remove those pesky prices! (or whatever other marker ink you're trying to get rid of)

I thought some visual aids would help for this tip. Here's what I started with...

Knock Knock Knock, Penny!

I've been reading Elycia's blog and got inspired by her pressed penny collection. I like to collect things that don't take up too much space and I love the nostalgia of penny pressing machines.

I visited a website called the Penny Collector and I was excited to see how many places in my area have these machines! I happened to be in the neighborhood of the Hasty Tasty the other day and stopped by to press some pennies.

This was spontaneous, so I didn't have my "real" camera with me. My iPhone photos will have to suffice this time!

The people in the restaurant probably thought I was crazy. I didn't eat there and I was SUPER STOKED about my pennies!

Just the Tip #3

It's sure been a crazy week with all the election hoopla. Living in the battleground state of Ohio keeps things interesting. I decided to spare you guys all the gory details. I'm sure you're as sick of it all as I am.

Helpful Tip #3 is brought to you from my Mom. She let me in on this little tidbit only after I had the emotionally scarring experience of finding meal moth larva IN my flour canister! *shudder* I think it went down in a phone conversation like this....
